Neem
Botanical Name: Azadirachta indica
Common Names: Azadirachtin, bead tree, beta-sitosterol, holy tree, Indian Iilac, isomeldenin, margosa, Perian Lilac, Pride of China, quercetin, village of pharmacy.
Part Used : Leaf
Back Ground: Neem is considered to have originated in Assam in northeast and Mayanmar. Now is grown in all over India.
Historical Or Theoretical Uses: Neem has been used to treat infections, skin conditions, pain killer, fever reducer, mosquito repellent, psoariasis, gastroduodenal ulcers, diarrhea, gastric cancer, diabetes, hypertension, reduce plaque formations etc
Neem Drug Interactions:
Acetaminophen : Concomitant use of acetaminophen and aqueous leaf extract has been reported to induce hepatotoxicity in rats .
Antihypertensive drugs: Due to possible hypotensive effects, neem should be used cautiously.
Oral Diabetes drugs: Neem may decrease glucose levels and caution is advised when using concomitantly with other sugar altering drug or herbs.
Caution : Before taking herb consult your health care partitioner/ physician. Do not take neem if you are pregnant.
