Alternative protocol for Arthritis

Medical science has yet to find any full cure for various kinds of arthritis and that leads to search for alternative choices for safe management of arthritis. While few alternative therapy approaches can be substantiated in controlled studies of their effectiveness, research indicates that some of these alternative approaches can play a significant role in management of pain associated with arthritic ailments. Ayurveda, western herbal therapies, hydrotherapy, acupressure can have positive effects in controlling chronic arthritic pain. Some safe alternative therapies could be employed for safe management of any kind of joint or muscle pain.


Hydrotherapy: Swimming or other simple exercise in a heated pool allows arthritic patients to work on movement of affected joints and improve muscle strength.

Nutrition and Diet

Nutrition and a balanced diet can play a very important role in management of arthritis.  Being overweight is a major risk factor for osteoarthritis. Theoretically, losing just a few pounds might diminish the discomfort. Weight loss reduces the stress on joints.  Research studies have demonstrated that dietary fats can influence inflammation, a major factor in rheumatoid arthritis. This is the type of arthritis that occurs as a result of the body's immune system mistakenly launching an attack on the joints. Omega-3 rich fish oil may show some benefit in inflammatory arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis. There is some evidence that cutting out plants in the nightshade family such as tomato, potato, eggplant and pepper.  Certain vitamins such as Vitamin A, C and E may relieve certain arthritic symptoms. Some therapists suggest intake of cherries or dark red berries to stimulate the production of collagen which is essential to cartilage repair.

Meditation 

Meditation is a simple yet a very powerful tool for training our minds to regulate our emotions, reduce perception  of pain, and increase relaxation – thereby decreasing our perception of pain. 

Ayurvedic Approach 

According to Ayurveda, an ancient indian system of medicine, the main root cause of arthritis is due to accumulation of Ama or toxins in the joints and aggravated Vata (dosha type) paired with weak Agni ( digestive fire). Treatment approach includes dislodging the ama from joints and bringing it back into the colon to be eliminated. This process is done by taking various herbs internally and massaging the affected area with medicated herbal oils.

Our treatment  Protocol

  1. Dr Kohli’s Muscle and Joint pain oil which is specially formulated to relieve muscle and joint pain, pain of tendons and ligaments and pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Massage into the affected area until completely absorbed. Initially  apply this oil oil 4 times daily. Relief may be experienced within three days.

  1. Dr. Kohli's Triphala Capsules should be taken at bedtime with warm water to cleanse the gut.
